Beijing was one of the many highlights of my trip, it was remarkable to see such a contrast between the old and new China. I especially enjoyed walking along the Great Wall where I was able to appreciate the dedication, blood and tears of the people during its construction. The Imperial Forbidden City and the beautiful Summer Palace are other example of mesmerising cultural sites. Shanghai is such an exciting city. It offers a cosmopolitan atmosphere with an abundance of markets and shopping centres. Shanghai is filled with many stunning colonial buildings and contemporary high rise developments bringing both an eastern and western feel to ‘the Bund’.The trip encouraged me to study the tourism industry for four years and I am now lucky enough to make travel dreams come true while organising travel plans for others. |

This country is very different from any other country I have visited with its ancient History ranging from the Great Wall, Terracotta warriors, Tiananmen square (plus more) to one of the most modern places in the world with its large Advanced Airports and high tech public transport system with trains over 400kms in some places making travelling efficient to get around. China has a very diverse culture with each province having its own unique language and culture to live by. |
Rickshaw Travel
Rickshaw Travel is the holding company for China Online and also operates in a number of other countries. Rickshaw Travel is an online travel organisation that lets independent travellers create their own adventurous and cultural trips to far-off destinations. We wanted our company name to fit with each new country site we launched (starting with Thailand online and Vietnam online). It needed to be a name that could be associated with trips to far-away lands and yet have a very intimate, small-scale appeal. A name that wouldn't stand for shiny brochures or for trips with unnecessary frills. A name that would stand for new experiences, respect for nature and culture, for independent travel and the opportunity for personal input. We chose the name Rickshaw, based on the ordinary, exotic means of transport and hardworking people who operate them. We have an ever-growing team of very enthusiastic travel specialists and our range of travel destinations is continuously expanding. |
